Hello! While checking Bluebird boxes this evening on the pet trail at Highbanks, I noticed several Baltimore Orioles flitting about, some of which were apparently feeding in berry bushes near the ground. At one point, I counted (and recounted) 20 Orioles in one tree and I'm sure there were more. Every bird was either a female or a first year bird; no adult males were in the group. I've never seen that many at one time before. A Yellow-Breasted Chat has still been calling in the biggest field of the pet trail for the past few weeks. Summer and Scarlet Tanagers (two each) are still being heard and seen along the pet trail. Cutting over to the Dripping Rock trail to go back to the parking lot, I heard two Louisiana Waterthrushes chipping and/or singing in the ravine. Once at the Nature Center parking lot, two Common Nighthawks called as they flew overhead. I've seen these two off and on at the park over the past few weeks. Also, there was a Great-Crested Flycatcher calling near the parking lot. Directions to Highbanks are on the OOS web site or can be accessed at _www.metroparks.net_ (http://www.metroparks.net) .
