Today I joined Bob Powell and three members of his ornithology class for a field trip. Our first stop, the Cowan Lake Spillway, had two Spotted Sandpipers, two Killdeer, several Mallards and a number of Rough-winged Swallows. The birds were feeding on the very small part of the spillway still moist.

In addition to the usual Ring-billed Gulls and Canadas the Caesar Creek beach had one Short-billed Dowitcher feeding rather furiously. Barn Swallows and a few Bank Swallows were also present.

Bob and I checked out the Mound Road area and found very limited mudflat with a sole Spotted Sandpiper. There was also a Green Heron and a Kingfisher.
Cloudy Day Cheers, Larry Gara
