A small group of birders from all over were treated to some excellent shorebirding at Pickerel Creek and Willow Point. A total of 19 species were reported, with the hottest area being the section north of the woodlot which is accessed by walking north from the 'Area B' parking area off of Rt. 6. Highlights included, Marbled Godwits (2), Hudsonian Godwit, Wilson's & Red-necked Phalaropes, Ruddy Turnstones, a few White-rumps, many Stilts, Pectorals, Dowitchers, and the usual suspects. A Peregrine Falcon buzzed the area and caused a commotion. A Black Tern was also observed in the area north of the observation deck. Inga Schmidt talked with a local hunter who was scouting the area and was told that the Pickerel Creek area will have its water levels increased by the end of this week, so it may pay to visit there soon.
