Lee Underschultz Firefly Hollow Little Hocking, OH For anyone who is interested we will be hosting a MAWE (Multi-generational Appalachian Weekend Explorers) hike Sunday, Sept. 13th @ 2 pm here at Firefly Hollow in Little Hocking, OH. Naturalist Paul Knoop will be with us sharing his expertise along the way. The wild cherries are ripe and attracting birds throughout the woods. It might be a good time to catch some fall migrants here. There is no charge for attending and there will be plenty of parking space available. This hike is family oriented so children are welcome. We have around 3.5 miles of trails through the woods but there will be places where you can cut your hike shorter and return to the parking area. There are some fairly steep trails up and down but there will be more relatively level trails across and around ridges. All of the trails are cleared and at least 4 feet wide. We have a few Segways available for use by adults with physical limitations. Anyone interested in using a Segway needs to contact me at least on 24 hours prior to arrival and must arrive by 1 pm for training. We also have seating in the hollow around the daylily garden and the creek where you can sit and bird without having to hike the trails at all. Actually some of the best birding on our place has been in the garden. There is also a tent that will supply shelter from the sun. You can call me at 740-989-2405. We are located about 30mins. southeast of Athens, OH or 25 mins. southwest of Marietta, OH just 1 mile off of US Route 50. We are about 1.5 mile from the Ohio River. You can read more about Firefly Hollow and the Segways at www.fhsigns.com. You will also find a map there. We'll hope for good weather and hope to see you in the hollow!
