Little Blue Heron: Up to three, both adults and juveniles, were reported by numerous observers in and around the shorebird habitat at Ottawa 24-26 July. Others, 26 July were at Whittier Peninsula near Columbus (Heather Raymond fide Ben Warner) and an imm. on the Great Miami River in Dayton near Carillon Park (Rick Asasmoto). PIPING PLOVER: A banded female was found at Conneaut Harbor 26 July by Robert Krajeski, and reported by John Pogacnik. The bird remained throughout the week, last observed by Jen Brumfield, Phil Chaon, and Gabe Leidy 31 July - at both the harbor-area and the beach to the east. American Avocet: At Conneaut, July 26th (John Pogacnik) and 28th (Craig Caldwell). A bird passed quickly through Pipe Creek WA, Erie Co 26 July (Emil Bacik, Gabe Leidy). Inland, four spent much of 27 July hanging out at Pickerington Ponds MP (Paul Gardner, Ben Warner) and two popped up at Englewood Main MP 31 July (Ed & Bev Neubauer). Willet: One visited Ottawa NWR’s Pool 2A 23 July (Tom Bartlett fide Bill Whan). Mark Vass found one at Conneaut 24 July. Pipe Creek WA hosted one 26 July (Emil Bacik, Gabe Leidy). An inland record came from along Prairie Lane at Killbuck Marsh WA 24-28 July (fide The Bobolink area RBA, Willis Brubaker). Whimbrel: Ottawa NWR hosted a rare ‘lingerer’ 23-24 July, seen by Tom Bartlett, Jen Brumfield et al. One visited the nearly-dry Lorain Impoundment 26 July (Chris Pierce). Birds visited Conneaut 29 July (three - John Petruzzi), and 31 July (two - Jen Brumfield, Phil Chaon, Gabe Leidy). Marbled Godwit: A bird was reported at Ottawa NWR 26 July (fide Chris Knoll). White-rumped Sandpiper: A bird visited the flats at Pickerington Ponds MP near Columbus 26 July (Ben Warner, Heather Raymond). Baird’s Sandpiper: Jerry Talkington observed the season’s first at Conneaut 28 July. Long-billed Dowitcher: Jen Brumfield and company observed six adults at Ottawa NWR 24 July. Wilson’s Phalarope: Bill Whan and company found one at Pipe Creek WA 26 July. Black Tern: An adult was present at Barrett Paving gravel pits in West Carrollton, Montgomery Co. 25 July (Rick Asamoto). Another visited Knox Lake 31 July (Gary Cowell). Sedge Wren: Sam Fitton, fide Mike Busam, found six in a field "on Mormon Road north of 130 (east of McGonigle and west of Hamilton)," this week. Clay-colored Sparrow: At least one was still north of Walnut Creek 23 July (fide The Bobolink area RBA).
