Please take a minute to access the link below from the Ohio Division of Wildlife website and report all sightings of wild turkey (as well as ruffed grouse) during June, July, and August. Information on adults with and without broods during this time is used to generate an annual index of reproductive success. Ohio's birders can be particularly helpful in this effort. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/HuntingandTrappingSubhomePage/turkeyhunt ing_landingpage/turkgrouseobservations/tabid/21770/Default.aspx Thanks! For the last few weeks five (or were there 6 originally) chicks have been living on the edge of the road. They lie down in the intersection (usually a car will stop, and someone attempts to shoo them back to the fields) and they can usually be seen feeding and resting in the grasses along the road edges. I assume the hen was killed at about the time they first appeared there, at maybe two or three weeks of age. They don't seem to have taken the basic survival course yet, duck and cover. I wonder what happens as they mature? Inga Schmidt ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
