Hey... I just returned from vacation birding the Central Oregon Coast. It is hard to believe that I would read that you got a Northern Wheatear in my backyard while I had to go to Oregon to get one. Our Wheatear enjoyed his/hers photo-op also. It would be nice if warblers would be so cooperative. Got some other birds too, including a Black-footed Albatross: that's what I love about birdwatching...the birds that you absolutely know that you will never see fly right up to you. I returned from vacation this afternoon and headed straight for Holmes county. When I arrived, I was greeted by Mr. Yoder and a very cooperative Northern Wheatear. The bird was actively foraging and highly visible in the area to the west (right) of the house for most of the time I was there (6:15- 7:30 PM). Several times, it flew into the driveway (to grab a bug) less than 20 feet from where we were standing! Spectacular! Nice to get a life bird in Ohio again! > >Anyway, some pictures are posted here: > >http://www.flickr.com/photos/osubirder > >Hopefully this bird stays around for a while longer- it certainly didn't seem bothered by our presence (I guess it may never have seen a human before) However, Mr Yoder did comment that this evening it was perching much higher and foraging in a much larger area than he had previously noticed. > >Good luck, > > > > > >Steve Landes > > > >______________________________________________________________________ > >Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society. >Our thanks to Miami University for hosting this mailing list. >Additional discussions can be found in our forums, at www.ohiobirds.org/forum/. > >You can join or leave the list, or change your options, at: >http://listserv.muohio.edu/scripts/wa.exe?LIST=OHIO-BIRDS >Send questions or comments about the list to: [log in to unmask] ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
