Inspired by the promising winds, I checked a few spots along the Lake Erie
shoreline in Lucas Co., n.w. Ohio, this afternoon. Maumee Bay State Park
produced two Franklin's Gulls, an immature near the east end of the beach
and an adult a few hundred yards farther west, both very loosely associated
with Ring-billed Gulls. A little farther west at the Bayshore power plant,
there were many Ring-billed and Herring Gulls on the exposed flats, but the
only other gull was an adult Lesser Black-backed. When I checked the end of
the road at Metzger Marsh in mid-afternoon I saw no gulls aside from
Ring-billed and Herring, but Lester Peyton was there a little later and
added several Bonaparte's Gulls and a few Forster's Terns.
