Today when I got home from work, there were two purple finch couples on my
finch sock behind Polaris Town Center in southern Delaware County. They
seem to be less tolerant of the goldfinches than the house finches are.
The house finches and the purple finches also seem to spend more time on
the sunflower seed feeder than the goldfinches do.

I thought I saw a pair of purple finches out there about two weeks ago but
I didn't get a good look at them and I couldn't find them again.

Isn't this kind of early to start seeing purple finches in the Columbus
area? Then again, they have had an unusually cool summer in Canada this
year so maybe they left there earlier than usual.
