Birders, Little did I know when I set out at 07:30 that this morning would be my birdiest morning yet at Blue Limestone along the Delaware Run. 20 warbler species were present, represented by over 200 individuals. At times there was nothing, and at times I was overwhelmed by warblers, with about 30 in the surrounding trees, and too many to identify. Therefore, I missed approx. 75, and they went unidentified. Magnolias dominated the show with 44 individuals, and 33 American Redstarts were tailing behind. The waxwing show of 680 birds was phenomenal. I had over 200 birds in the immediate vicinity at one point, and saw several hundred more throughout the day. List of highlights below: Location: Campus Observation date: 9/6/09 Number of species: 69 Red-shouldered Hawk 1- odd seeing this in the woods here, eating a caterpillar Ruby-throated Hummingbird 3 Belted Kingfisher 1 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 1, close and cooperative White-eyed Vireo 1, juvenile Yellow-throated Vireo 1, singing Red-eyed Vireo 3 Cedar Waxwing 680- quite remarkable, I had about 60 birds bathing in the run with about 200 in the trees, and continually had flocks of 50-100 birds flying over throughout the day. It was hard to judge the numbers, but with the constant stream of waxwings flying over, I'm confident in at least 680.
