The highlight of the morning whittier walk was a nice hunting display by a peregrine, most likely our local Scout, although it could have been the male seen flirting with her lately (I hope!). For those of you that don't know, the Columbus peregrine's successfully raised three female chicks this year, but then Orville was tragically killed in a collision midsummer. We're hoping Scout finds another male soon. Also of note were 7 chimney swifts flying high overhead. Other listervers were posting that swifts had already departed from their region (although I also noticed a few at Headlands Beach SP this weekend). Other birds observed at Whittier this morning included: DCCO 96 MALL 22 CAGO 39 GRYE 1 SPSA 1 GREG 15 GBHE 4 NOCA 7 WTSP 1 RBGU 35 HEGU 1 PEFA 1 CAWR 3 CACH 7 DOWO 1 AMRO 9 COHA 1 SOSP 21 CHSW 7 MODO 4 NOFL 1 BLUE 1 A sad lack of warblers and flycatchers (winter's coming!). I did notice a few YRWAs and one BTGW along the river the day before.
