West Creek Reservation was surprisingly birdy, this afternoon - more so than it has been all fall. Nothing too rare was found in the mix, but lateish Eastern Wood-Pewee, Blackburnian Warbler among five warbler sp. (my latest fall record there), and Rose-breasted Grosbeak were nice. Sparrows were in quite healthy numbers, as they should be this time of year: White-throated (60), Song (40), Swamp (5), Lincoln's (4), Chipping (2), and White-crowned (1).

In addition to Ammodramus sp., the next few days are prime time to look for migrant Clay-colored Sparrows. They often consort with Chipping Sparrow flocks, but are just as likely to be found solo, around the edges of dry, shorter-grass fields, or often lawns. These are only generalizations - I have encountered them in other habiatats, as well. Today, Jerry Talkington had one in the Mentor area, along with yet another Red Phalarope.
