For those interested in lists, the AOU Committee on Classification and
Nomenclature has issued a new list of proposed revisions of the AOU
Check-list. See it at
http://www.aou.org/committees/nacc/proposals/pending.php
Based on a quick scan, new species proposed for recognition include (at
last) the western form of winter wren as Troglodytes pacificus, a new
red crossbill species limited to a small area in Idaho, the South Hills
Red Crossbill Loxia sinesciurus, and a two-way or three-way split in the
western scrub jay genus Aphelocoma, to include Woodhouse's scrub-jay and
perhaps Sumichrast's scrub-jay.
There are many nomenclatural proposals, too, but for accumulative
listers who've paid close attention over the years there is potential
good news.
It's been a long time since anything's been lumped!
