I spent the better part of the day cleaning and doing maintenance on my Prothonotary Warbler Nest Boxes at the Hoover Nature Preserve. 100 done and 150 to go. Yesterday Ben Warner posted with regard to the fallout of migrants at Area L. Ben tallied 72 species including shorebirds in the not exposed cove off Dustin Road at Area L. Better late than not at all, the mudflats in most areas at the north end of Hoover Reservoir are finally emerging and the shorebird variety and numbers are beginning to get interesting. Some of the areas I was at today were Mud Hen Marsh, Oxbow Road, Wiese Road and the mudflats near Pelican Island. Species observed included: Double-crested Cormorant 17 Great Blue Heron 11 Great Egret 8 Turkey Vulture 5 Canada Goose 14 Wood Duck 3 Mallard 9 Bald Eagle 1 Cooper’s Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk 2 American Kestrel 1 Semipalmated Plover 6 Killdeer 21 Spotted Sandpiper 1 Greater Yellowlegs 7 Lesser Yellowlegs 16 Sanderling 2 Semipalmated Sandpiper 5 Least Sandpiper 5 Pectoral Sandpiper 4 Stilt Sandpiper 1 Ring-billed Gull 28 Common Tern 2 Mourning Dove 8 Chimney Swift 2 Belted Kingfisher 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 Downy Woodpecker 2 Northern Flicker 5 Blue Jay 13 American Crow 10 Carolina Chickadee 9 Tufted Titmouse 5 White-breasted Nuthatch 1 Carolina Wren 1 American Robin 7 Gray Catbird 6 European Starling 23 Cedar Waxwing 75 Nashville Warbler 3 Magnolia Warbler 2 Black-throated Green Warbler 2 Blackpoll Warbler 1 Black-and-white Warbler 1 American Redstart 2 Scarlet Tanager 1 Eastern Towhee 2 Song Sparrow 3 Northern Cardinal 8 American Goldfinch 10 Charlie Bombaci Hoover Nature Preserve ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
