If you want the easiest Bald Eagles in central Ohio, head out to Cruiser park in Groveport (just east of Hamilton Rd). Tipped off by Heather Saling, I visited there once in the evening last week, and early this morning, and had roosting birds both times. This morning I had both an adult and a juvenile. They roost out on the tall snags in the middle of Cruiser Pond, a wonderful 4 acre pothole pond in the middle of the park. Despite the eagle's presence, the tree-filled pond is also hosting a nice assortment of waterfowl, including Mallards, Black Ducks, Wood Ducks, and Green-winged teal. I also biked the adjacent Grovepot portion of the Blacklick Creek trail, and had a good mix of forest and field birds. A couple of Brown Creepers and a Towhee were the best, but this spot also has resident Barred owls and has produced a handful of unusual birds in wonters past. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
