I went to Sims Park in Euclid this morning from 12:15 to 12:35pm and then again from 3:15 to 4:20pm. I then stopped at Euclid City Park (Euclid Community Center) north of Babbitt. The lake was so smooth and the weather so nice there wasn't a lot of variety. Saw the following: Surf Scoter 1 White-winged Scoter 1 (couldn't find any Black Scoters) Ruddy Ducks 4 (afternoon) Lesser Scaup 7 Common Goldeneye ~ 25 Bufflehead ~ 5 Red-breasted Mergansers - large groups flying When I went to the Euclid Community Center I was able to see the two scoters better. I watched them for over 15 mins. The White-winged Scoter did not show its white on the wing except from the rear and when it came out of the water flapping its wings. When I observed it in the morning from Sims Park is showed the white all the time. It had a larger white spot in the ear area. Its bill was darker. The Surf Scoter had an oranger bill with less obvious white spots on the side of the head. I also stopped at Villa Angela/Wildwood Areas of Cleveland Lakefront State Park in the afternoon. The marina had 20 Bufflehead, 1 Lesser Scaup, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 American Coot. Then I ran into Mark Anderson and walked with him around Villa Angela. When we were closer to the Euclid Beach area he spotted 1 TURKEY VULTURE and then a Red-tailed Hawk.
