Hi all, While not a bird that was found in Ohio, the Bare-throated Tiger-Heron found yesterday afternoon at Bentsen State Park in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas deserves a note here. One of the finders was Rick Nirschl, active Ohio birder, past president of the Toledo Naturalists' Association, and naturalist extraordinaire. The heron, which ranges from northern Mexico south into Colombia, would be a first U.S. record if all goes well with the TEX records committee. Rick, and Rick Snider, the other discoverer, got some nice photos of the bird, and they gave me permission to post them on my blog should you wish to lust over the beast. As of late afternoon today, no one had relocated the heron but you can be sure that people will be looking. A huge find for Rick - one of many that he has made over the years!
