In '99 or 2000 while driving to treat a cow in the grasslands surrounding
the Harrison Co. airport, I counted 18 short-eared owls on 18 consectutive
fence posts. The cattleman said they were there ervery year. We had not
seen them since. Saturaday at dusk, I saw one short-eared owl in the ditch
going back to the turn around where the Upland SP's were off of Industry
Parkway. It flew from the ditch and in front of my headlights for a short
period before disappearing into the night.
One Rough-Legged and two Harriers have also returned to the airport.
