While driving around the cemetery late this afternoon, I found a merlin perched on top of a maple tree right at the edge of the adjacent golf course. He stayed in the tree for about fifteen minutes before flying to the row of pines that are about the boundary between the cemetery and golf course. There he made a half hearted pass at a robin, and then remained perched on the pines. One by one, the blue jays made a hasty exit from their shelter. After about five minutes he took off and was joined by another merlin. I lost track of them as they flew through the trees. This is the first time I've seen them at Highland Park C. Maybe they are roosting there? Last seen around 3:40. Also about 700 crows passed through the cemetery....they seem to congregate over by the Cleveland House of Corrections off Harvard Road. I counted 1200- 1500 about a week ago. Inga Schmidt ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
