Unfortunately, I did not get to see this bird, but my older brother (who is
a wildlife biologist) flushed a barn owl out of some tall grass in
northern Ross County, along Deer Creek. This happened on Dec. 26th. I thought
the readers here would find that interesting, and I would be interested in
knowing if others have had similar experiences with barn owls. My brother
has encountered them a couple other times over the years roosting/resting
in tall grass, reeds, etc. I had never heard of these birds doing that.

My big thrill this frigid weekend was watching a male Yellow Bellied
Sapsucker on my suet feeders yesterday (Jan. 2) and seeing a Carolina Wren for
the first time in weeks on my peanut feeder.
