Stopped at the lakefront today to check on ice conditions and was a bit surprised by the numbers of gulls aloft hugging the shoreline. I parked for a few minutes and eventually drove to the circular turnaround and just sat watching with binoculars when I thought I spotted a rather large black backed gull...duh...it was an eagle flying directly away from me, just above the water. He cruised around for a good five minutes, hitting the water several times. I switched to the camera which limited my viewing ability some but it appeared he grabbed something white, whether a gull or fish I couldn't tell, that he subsequently seemed to have lost. I was able to get a few fair photos from the vehicle before he headed over to the 55th st. marina where everything on the ground scattered skyward. This was approximately 1:45 pm.
