Hi all ,
Spent about two hours at East 72nd St. in Cleveland today. Gull numbers are still fairly low and mostly dominated by Ring-billed Gulls though the lake is mostly frozen. Near the hot water outlets there were good numbers of ducks including Bufflehead, Canvasback, Redhead, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Hooded Merganser and Common Goldeneye. In addition to Ring-billed, Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls there were 2 Adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Besides the hot water outlet the only other area of open water is a large patch near the outer breakwall. This area had good numbers of gulls mostly Herring Gulls however there was a single Lesser Black-backed Gull and a 1st winter Iceland Gull. This area is fairly far out and a scope is pretty much required. It is best viewed from E55th St. Marina. Hopefully the gulling will only improve over the coming weeks.
Good Birding,
Philip Chaon
