My backyard feeders in Fremont, Ohio were pretty active today: Mourning Doves, Dark-eyed Juncos, Cardinals, WB Nuthatch, E. Starlings, House Sparrows, Black-capped Chicadee, Canada Geese (overhead), Blue Jay, Gold Finch, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Downy Woodpeckers, Grackle, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Carolina Wren. Drove behind Fremont Water Plant: *Bald Eagles = 6: 4 immatures flying over Sandusky River, 1 Imm. in tree alongside 1 adult. *Herring Gulls = 47 *Song Sparrow = 1 *Rock Pigeons = 23 Drove to Pickerel Creek WA, Castalia Pond, Old Bay Bridge & County Roads in-between: *Belted King Fisher = 1 *Snow Goose, White morph juvi(?)= 1 (Had pink bill with black blotches on bill. Back had greyish-white. Mingled with Canada Geese. Has anyone seen this bird in Castalia Pond? If so, what's your take on it)Not a Ross's Goose *Canada Geese = 550 *Lesser Scaup = 1 pair *Pintail = 1 male *N. Shoveler = plentiful *Black Duck = 22+ (More began landing in Castalia Pond as I left) *Mallard = Plentiful *Gadwall = Plentiful *Am. Widgeon = Plentiful *Buffle Head = 7 males *Cooper or Sharp-shin Hawks = 2 *Song Sparrow = 2 *Horned Lark = 28 *Red-tail Hawk = 3 *House Sparrow = 83 *Mourning Dove = 11 *Northern Harrier = 1 *"Black birds" = 350, far off in distant tree *Brown-headed Cowbird = 2 *Common Grackle = 48 *Red-wing Blackbird = 1 *Cardinal = 1 *Downy Woodpecker = 4 *BC Chickadees = 2 *Tufted Titmouse = 1 *Tree Sparrow = 51 *Bald Eagle = 2 adults *Kestrel = 2 *Starlings = 104 Seeing 8 Bald Eagles today made my day!
