Hi, I've been on an unsuccessful quest the last few months to find an owl in the Cleveland area; no luck with the Great Horned at Sandy Ridge; no luck with the Short Eared at Frohring Meadows; no luck with the Barred at North Chagrin. Today, I'm sorry to report, I found my first Barred Owl, dead near a window at my parents' house in Russell (Geauga County). I reported the find to the ODNR (and sent some pictures to them so they could confirm the species---in my inexperience I mistook it for Short Eared). This was a really sad and strangely ironic experience. Thought I'd share it with the list. The day *began *well enough with a very snowy sighting of one of the Bald Eagles at Sandy Ridge; he/she was perched on a branch halfway up a tree very near the trail where the forest opens into the wetland area. Red Shouldered Hawk heard but not seen. Noah ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
