I started the afternoon birding at about 2:30 pm in southeast Franklin County (Groveport / Canal Winchester Area, Pickerington Ponds) and ended at approximately 5:00 pm with the following result - Ponds are very frozen over snow cover 12"+ : Multiple flocks of horned larks (totaling 200+) Three Bald Eagles (2 Mature Bald Eagles - Definitely Nesting), 1 Immature at Pickerington Ponds (West of Wood Duck Viewing Area) Redtail Hawks (5) Coopers Hawk (1) Ring Necked Pheasant (15 birds - 8 hens / 7 roosters on School House Road) with 2 additional hens at the Wood Duck Viewing Area Numerous Tree Sparrows. White Throated Sparrows (10+) Hermit Thrushes (4) - Tail Bobbing Behavior (Got nice photo from approximately 10" away - Northern edge of Pickaway County) Robins (50 +) American Crows (20+) - One group had 12 crows in it. Cardinals (10 +) Northern Harriers (3 - 2 Adult Males, 1 Immature) Eastern Meadowlarks (6 - 3 Males, 3 Females) by barn at Hayes and Pontius Road 35 white tailed deer - Pickerington Ponds (East of Ellis Pond off of Schoolhouse Road) Numerous house finches (at feeders) Blue Jays (5) Canada Geese (50+ - Flying overhead) Great Blue Heron (x2) Yesterday - Got some very nice photos of a Barred Owl at Blacklick Woods Rick Stelzer ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
