We at The Trumpeter Swan Society are monitoring winter distribution of Trumpeter Swans in states on or below the 40th parallel. This is year one of the project. If you have Trumpeter Swan sightings from this winter, or past winters they are of value to us. We will be going back through the archives, but we know that not all sightings get posted, or we may miss posts. Please consider registering for Trumpeter Watch, this Citizen Science project. We have summary forms for your sightings on our website at www.trumpeterswansociety.org - go to the Citizen Science section at the lower edge of the home page. You can also email details to me directly, noting location (GIS coordinates are great, if you do not have these then a description with reference to closest town, lake, park, etc. and the County. This year Trumpeter Swans are literally all over the map, with sightings this week in Virginia, Tennessee and Louisiana, among others. They are using ten different areas in Oklahoma. It is really an exciting time. We have resources on our website for the Trumpeter Watch program: a detailed ID section, a key to colors and alphanumeric codes used for marked birds of the Interior population and registration forms. We keep you posted through a monthly newsletter. We are a non-profit organization working to assure the vitality and welfare of wild Trumpeter Swans. You can find us on the web, on our Blog, or on Facebook. Thank you!
