The woodcock part... Last night we heard the first "peents" of American Woodcocks on the Black Swamp Bird Observatory grounds, which is located just inside the entrance to Magee Marsh Wildlife Area. The walking trail behind the Observatory headquarters is like woodcock central in early spring. Dozens of birds can be heard from the BSBO parking lot and once you venture out onto the trail it's just nuts! The bizarre sky-rocketing display of these birds is like standing in the midst of feathered-fireworks; it's just the coolest thing. You should come see it with us! We still have a few spaces left for our woodcock program and field trip next Saturday, March 20th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. It's only $10 (students 18 and under are free) and for that you get a great indoor program and a guided walk out onto the launching pad. : ) Just call BSBO at 419-898-4070 to make your reservations. More info can be found at the BSBO website here: http://www.bsbobird.org The jet-propelled catamaran part... This year during the Biggest Week In American Birding, we're working with our partners at The Jet Express in Port Clinton, Ohio to bring you, not one, but two, day-trips to Point Pelee. The trip is a total blast and the crew on the The Jet are really into birding, so they add to the fun! They provide a continental breakfast, a really tasty box-lunch, and all of your transportation needs. BSBO and our partners at Tropical Birding will provide several world-class birding guides and free bird checklists for everyone. Here's a link to the Biggest Week website for more details: http://biggestweekinamericanbirding.com/birding_by_ferry_and_jet.htm Or, call the Jet Express at: 800-245-1538 / Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM to make your reservations.
