I had a singing white-winged crossbill today at the Lake Metroparks Girdled Road Reservation in Concord Township, Lake County. The bird was singing in an area with extensive hemlocks along Big Creek in the center of the park. If anyone is interested in looking it is at least a two mile walk along the Buckeye Trail section of the park. It was specifically along the edge of the creek where there is a picnic table. The saw-whet was in an area where they have bred in the past. From the lack of pellets it ;looked like it had only been there a day or so. Sorry, because they have bred in the past the area cannot be disclosed.
