On my drive to work along the Scioto River this morning I spotted a
large flock of ducks and decided to stop and check. I'm glad I did.

Just north of the Home Rd. bridge there was a flock of ~250 mixed
Athaya. Mostly Ring-necked and Redhead, with some Scaup and Canvasback
mixed in. And half a dozen Bufflehead nearby. I had seen a large flock
flying north along the river, behind the trees as I was driving south
which is what caught my attention. I'd guess there could have been a
flock of over 400 ducks just before I got to that bridge.

It was just about perfect- there was a safe place to pull off, the
ground was fairly dry, the sun was behind me, the wind was still, the
sky was clear, the water was calm. The birds were gorgeous, with fresh
breeding plumage.

A guy couldn't ask for a nicer birthday present.
