While walking around the lakefront without binoculars today, I was able to observe a few species: Thousands of gulls kept up a steady squalling racket, 8 coots were swimming around near the William G. Mather, a pied-bill grebe was diving for food, and a single male red-breasted merganser was floating along in the open water on its own personal ice floe. I've never observed this behavior before. I couldn't tell if it was injured or just resting. A small flock of juncos were feeding among the plantings along the Port of Cleveland fence line, too. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
