The large, flat, twig nest, had a red tailed hawk sitting in it for several weeks, but yesterday evening I found the lining of the nest, a comforting cocoon with it's little pine needles and masses of downy feathers, at the base of the tree. Although high up in the pine, it was very visible, and must have attracted a raccoon. I can't think what else, except an owl, would destroy a red tails nest. Otherwise, I still heard a red breasted nuthatch in section 6, and saw a female flicker excavating a hole. There are so many starlings in the cemetery that I'm surprised that any other cavity nester manages to hold on to it's spot. From Highland Park Cemetery, Cuyahoga Co.
