Passing along a report from Dana Bollin, Naturalist at Maumee Bay State Park: 30 American Avocets in breeding plumage are sitting at the water's edge on the inland lake beach at Maumee Bay SP. Time of sighting confirmation - 1:30 pm today, Saturday the 24th. Sweet!! Maumee Bay State Park is located at: 1750 State Park Road Oregon, Ohio 43616 Lucas County Also, though not as flashy as American Avocets, several Pine Siskins have been visiting the Black Swamp Bird Observatory's feeders for the last two days. The address is below. In this kind of weather, (NNE winds off the Lake) it's always a good idea to check the inland sites along the Lake in addition to the immediate lake shore sites like Magee Marsh. The woodlots at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge often hold migrants in these chilly conditions and the boardwalk at the Refuge takes visitors through some nice habitat as well. Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge 14000 West State Route 2 Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449 Ottawa County ** Just a hop and a skip (you don't even need the jump) from Magee and Black Swamp.
