I have a couple of questions regarding woodcocks. I live in Central Ohio and have never seen the woodcock mating behavior. I was wondering if someone could suggest an area to visit where I might be likely to see this. My second question.... Late last year I found a woodcock at the Glacier Ridge Metro Park. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bugtrumpet/3719701852/ As it walked past me (I was on the raised walkway and it came out of the cattails in the formerly swampy area) it showed me this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bugtrumpet/3718911415/ I interpreted this as a threat display. Is that the correct interpretation? It displayed like this as it came fairly close to me and until it was perhaps 15-20 feet away.
