Day before yesterday, observers at one spot in Wisconsin reported witnessing two whimbrel flocks totaling ~1500 birds. The Center for Conservation Biology and The Nature Conservancy contribute to a page on seaturtle.org which summarizes the migration of these birds at http://www.wildlifetracking.org/index.shtml?project_id=369# On this site they have 26 such summaries treating 584 birds carrying transmitters during migration, also mammals, etc. Bander Bob Sargent reports on the Alabama list that he captured 13 hummingbirds in his back yard that same day. Nine of them were recaptures from previous years in the same yard, and two were captured for the fourth straight year. Most likely all had migrated over the Gulf of Mexico and its oil-slick. May your migrations go smoothly, Bill Whan Columbus ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
