I braved the cold, windy, and rainy day to try for the Purple Gallinule at Columbia Reservation today. When I got there, which was about 1:15, it was kind of cold, but luckily not raining at all. I started looking for the bird and spotted it at about 1:20. It was very cooperative and allowed great looks for pictures. The bird was also bobbing its tail for a little bit which was interesting. I started walking back to the parking lot and saw a couple of warblers hopping around in the bushes. I identified them as Yellow Warblers. But then, I noticed a Yellow Warbler nest in a bush! It was very small and I have never seen a Yellow Warbler nest. Also saw some Barn Swallows, Northern Rough-winged Swallows, and Chimney Swifts flying around. Lastly, I had about 4 Baltimore Orioles (2 females + 2 males) in the trees and singing. It was well worth the trip to see this very colorful and magnificent bird. Good Birding, Cole F.
