Here is the place (see below) to contribute your turkey and grouse sightings in Ohio. The survey is quick and easy and it would help the DNR. Mike acknowledged on another email his gratitude to all the birders who already contribute their sightings to the survey. Hi Matt, My name is Mike Reynolds and I am the wild turkey/ruffed grouse biologist for the Division of Wildlife. I coordinate the annual turkey/grouse brood survey to track population trends and distribution of these 2 species in Ohio. I am also cooperating with the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II to provide confirmed breeding records for turkeys and grouse in the state. If you are interested, I have a website where you can enter your sightings: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/wildlife/TurkeySurvey/ I saw your posting earlier in the week on the Ohio Birds Listserve and wanted to do a quick follow-up. Your reported 5 adult turkeys and 6 poults on 6/14/2010. Can you recall how many of the adults were females and males? I calculate an annual index of poults:adult female to estimate breeding success from year to year. Thanks for any information you can provide. I am grateful to the many birders who contribute sightings every summer.
