This evening, I saw a white hawk along Riverview Road. It was on the East side of the road, just a bit north of Szalay's Farm. Has anyone else seen it in that area? It was a truly stunning sight. I could not believe it when I drove past---I immediately did an illegal U-turn and went back to watch it, and thankfully it was cooperative and stayed for about five minutes before flying away. I'm assuming it's an albino red-tailed hawk, though given the location it could possibly have been a red-shouldered. I got a very good look at it, and the shape, size and bill were consistent with a red-tailed. There were some brownish feathers showing from underneath, but it was pretty close to pure white. Also, in a small creek along the towpath near the Ira Beaver Marsh I saw a waterthrush. I'm not sure if it was a Louisiana or a Northern, as I don't have much experience with waterthrushes, but based on my field guides it looks more like a Louisiana. Is this an unusual sighting in the CVNP this time of year?
