The Pipe Creek black-bellied whistling-duck flew off a little after 10:00 this morning (8/14). When I left around 11:30 it had not been relocated. It flew off with a large group of mallards heading east-southeast. I checked in the vicinity of the McDonalds, where mallards sometimes hang out, but found nothing. A few mallards were coming back so maybe it will follow them back. If anything the shorebirds alone make the trip worthwhile. I did get a shot of the duck as it was flying off.
