Delware State Park is located 6 miles north of the city of Delware, off of Rte 23. I spent 3 days this week at the park. Birds were seen constantly except for the Warblers. I found 5 different flocks of songbirds with Warblers.1 flock had 5 warblers, 3 flocks had 3 warblers & 1 flock had 1 warbler. In these flocks there were generally Baltomore Oriole & E Wood Peewee singing. The birds were active in various trees with fruit &/or seeds that were attracting insects. Many of the birds were catching insects on the wing Beach 6:45 am Killdeer-9 Great Blue Heron-2 E Towhee-3 Osprey-2-one was a female E Bluebird-2 young females, male E Kingbired-3 Swallows-flocks of various swallows-176+ Double-crested Cormorant-16 Spotted Sandpiper-young E Wood Peewee Mallard-4 Yellow-billed Cuckoo Field Sparrow Baltimore Oriole Belted Kingfisher Chimney Swift-20+ Beach Road 6:26 am Scarlet Tanager Wood Thrush E Towhee-6 Indigo Bunting-young female Field Sparrow-2 Cedar Waxwing-4 Sailboat Road 7:20 am Warblers- active in Grape vines, Honey Locust, Cherry Trees Canada-young female Pine-female Blackpoll Blackburian-male, female Blue-winged-male Bay-breasted Cedar Waxwing-26+ Osprey Hairy Woodpecker-male Baltimore Oriole-male, young female Scarlet Tanager-female Ruby-throated Hummingbird Yellow-billed Cuckoo-2 Vireos White-eyed Red-eyed Warbling Wood Thrush Acadian Flycatcher Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Red-shouldered Hawk Lakeview Trail 7:45 am Warblers-active in Cherry Trees, Hackberry Trees, Black Walnut Trees Hooded-young female Yellow-female Chestnut-sided-male Wilson-young female- around Wingstem Sunflower Cape May-young female Pine-female Baltimore Oriole-male, female, young female-2 Cedar Waxwing-50+ in Cherry trees Vireos Red-eyed-2 White-eyed-3 Carolina Wren Yellow-billed Cuckoo Indigo Bunting-young female Blue-gray Gnatcatcher White-throated sparrow-singing E Kingbird Ruby-throated Hummingbird Great Crested Flycatcher Hairy Woodpecker Chimney Swift Great Blue Heron-3 Briar Patch Trail 10:46 Black-and-white Warbler E Wood Peewee Blue-gray Gnatcatcher-adult, young Baltimore Oriole-singing Mink Trail 11:59 am Warblers- in Apple Tree & Honey Locust Yellow-throated-young male Bay-breasted Chestnut-sided-young Blue-gray Gnatcatcher-2 Red-eyed Vireo E Wood Peewee E Towhee Indigo Bunting-singing Hairy Woodpecker Cedar Waxwing Belted Kingfisher-male Yellow-billed Cuckoo Wood Thrush Bruce Simpson-Naturalist at Blendon Woods Metro Park ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
