Greetings, Well it had to happen eventually. Summer is officially over for me. Every summer, my Saturdays are pretty much open because my employer wisely understands that getting people to work on a summer weekend is virtually impossible. But today summer ends...I am not complaining :-D...just sad that another summer has come to an end. So in honor of my official end of summer and the wonderful deep colors that the corn and beans are displaying, I bring you a poem that was read to me when I was in sixth grade...we actually spent an hour on this poem discussing "what it means", and "what the writer was thinkikng"...all I know and all I remember is that it is now perminantly stuck in my brain! :-D Have a great weekend! Steve Jones (Aka sjlarue) SOMETHING TOLD THE WILD GEESE By Rachel Field Something told the wild geese It was time to go, Though the fields lay golden Something whispered, "snow." Leaves were green and stirring, Berries, luster-glossed, But beneath warm feathers Something cautioned, "frost." All the sagging orchards Steamed with amber spice, But each wild breast stiffened At remembered ice. Something told the wild geese It was time to fly, Summer sun was on their wings, Winter in their cry. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
