The winds were strong out of the north and the barometer was rapidly rising and as a result there was a great movement on the lake this morning. This was by far the best waterfowl day thus far this season. All three species of scoters were seen and there were good numbers of mergansers. Gull numbers were down a bit from yesterday. The surprise of the day was a short-eared owl flying out over the open lake around 9:15. It was briefly harassed by a gull, then it continued westward.
