The reservoir at Buck Creek State Park has finally been lowered enough to
expose some mudflats at the north end. A friend and I looked it over this
morning and found about 250 Killdeer, 25 Dunlin, 3 Wilson's Snipe, 2 Least
Sandpiper, 1 Pectoral Sandpiper, and 1 Baird's Sandpiper along with
Bonaparte's and Ring-billed Gulls. To get to the area go north on Grant Road
and turn on a gravel drive after going down a hill and crossing a small
bridge. Then walk north along the trail until you pass the last three Bald
Cypress trees. Soon after that is a very narrow trail to the edge of the
lake. It is somewhat difficult to get through the brush. You will need a
scope to look over the birds.
