A nice loon flight unfolded first thing this morning at Huro Hey all - A nice loon flight unfolded first thing this morning at Huron Pier for Emil Bacik and I. Among 343 Commons, two nice Red-throateds passed directly overhead, and another bird, which given more favorable viewing conditions (i.e. not seen as a flyover) may very well have proved to be a Pacific/Arctic. This bird fell intermediate in size between Common and Red-throated, and showed quite dark, clean markings on the head/neck. A Surf Scoter also passed here, and several hundred Bonaparte's moved east later in the morning. A lateish phoebe was also on the walk out. Nearby, on River Rd. (just east of the Huron River, and south off US-6) two Snow (one blue, one white) and a pair of Cackling Geese were encountered among 400 Canadas. These birds were grazing in a field adjacent to the Huron Wastewater Treatment Plant and later rested on the river itself. Continued trekking eastward along the lakefront turned up nothing else quite so noteworthy. Good birding - Gabe Leidy Cleveland ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
