December 5, 2010 Tonight at dusk I counted at least 5 Short-eared Owls at Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park in western Franklin County. They were hunting the large prairie field on the north side of Kuhlwein Rd on the east side of Darby Creek Rd. Many thanks to the Columbus Metro Parks for restoring this large patch of grassland habitat which not long ago was barren cornfield. The owls definitely approve and I'm sure we will get to enjoy many more great birds here in the future as the habitat matures. Good birding, Dave Slager Columbus, Ohio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
