Fellow birders, At 13 degrees, I was surprised to find an Eastern Phoebe on our pond this morning. It would perch on an old Lotus stem and appeared to be hawking insects above the open water. What insect that might be is a mystery to me, but that is what it looked like. Add to that five woodpecker species, a brown creeper, a Golden-crowned Kinglet and all the regular suspects, and there was an impressive 25 species of birds on hand this morning. This six acre yard has several feeding stations, a small pond, 18 crab trees, and much other bird friendly plantings. It has provided great birding for over 30 years, much of it reported right here. There have been three Great horned owls in the woods for the last two weeks, and the ever present Barred owls, but they did not show up for this mornings count. joe in the woods Somerset, Ohio Perry county ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
