I was at East 72nd Street and East 55th Street in Cleveland this afternoon from 12:00-2:15. Gull numbers are way down over yesterday. There were probably 1,000 gulls from East 55th-East 72nd. Very few gulls were flying at the hot water channel that is now clogged with ice. The Common gull was seen out on the ice west of the hot water channel. It was in the company of mostly ring-billed gulls. I observed it fly south across the road and disappear near the power plant. There is water on the north side of the power plant and gulls were feeding there. I was not able to see it flying around over there so I don't know if it was on the water there or if it flew elsewhere. I was unable to relocate the bird amongst the gulls sitting on the ice or anywhere else. Other birds of note were a first cycle glaucous, 1 1st cycle Iceland and 2 lesser black-backed gulls. I also saw and photographed an interesting darker mantled herring gull.
