I had a thrilling experience this afternoon. I saw an American Eagle sitting high in a tree along Stiving Road about 150 yards north of Myers road in Richland County. I had my husband turn around and I got out of the car slightly in front of the bird so I could see it from the front. It turned it’s head and watched me walk across the road . After about a minute if flew off toward the north. A huge bird when seen up that close. My home is less than a mile away (as the crow flies) in Shelby and Stiving road runs along the Black Fork (that I call the crick) but is certainly not where I would ever expect to see an eagle. I often see Red Tailed Hawks in this area but never anything this exciting.

I feed sparrows....just your run of the mill house sparrow mob. Two days ago I was astonished to see six other birds that looked to me like brown headed cow birds. Some had the rusty brown heads and some did not. Rusty Blackbird crossed my mind but they were smaller than a grackle and not much larger than the belligerent sparrows. I feed mostly sunflower seeds in the hope that it would bring in a more desirable group of birds, but that hasn't worked.......Jane Fidler
