Well it took a new year to do it, but I was FINALLY able to see a Short Eared Owl up close and personal. I was driving down 95 towards Marion looking for a rough legs actually, and spotted something coming out of the switch grass. At 4:15, it was really still to bright out, so I immediately thought Harrier. But it didn't flap right. So I pull over and take a better look, yep it was a shortie...then another, then another...I watched them a second and noticed that they dove down towards a cornfield over on 203, so I popped over there real quick, and found 2 of them about 20 yards from the road and the third about another 20 out. Took 15 to get some good pics and left them there. From what I can gather, a hunter was over in the field that they were in, and must have flushed them out...I bet he got a shock...:-D I had a great close encounter of the Female Harrier kind as well...she nearly flew into my (open) car window. :-D A couple Pics here: http://s153.photobucket.com/albums/s226/sjlarue/Birds/ Well I have tons of pictures to go through and a date to go on, so I will see you out there. Happy Birding and God Bless. Steve J. (aka sjlarue) ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
