My thanks to the many people who offered ideas for birding in S. California. We had a wonderful week (Jan 8-15) from San Diego to L.A., Palm Springs area, Salton Sea, Borrego Springs and back to San Diego. The desert was cold but the Indian Canyons offered some good birding and interesting habitat. The San Diego Zoo was awesome and by the end of the week the temp was 70 degrees and perfect weather! We logged 76 species and 6 life birds: . Bean Goose (looks like Greater White-fronted Goose with an orange band on a dark bill) . Oak Titmouse . Common Ground Dove . Scott's Oriole . Brant . Clark's Grebe We took some nice pictures and I have posted a sample of them at http://picasaweb.google.com/mvalencic/CaliforniaBirds#.
