Since the first of the year I've been to Cleveland Lakefront St. Pk. by the ranger station several times in search of the northern saw-whet that had been mentioned in a post a day or two earlier, with very little luck. On Tuesday several of us caught a very minimal glimpse of it through heavy needle cover towards the top of a tree on the west side of the parking lot thanks to the diligence of a lady birder from Cincinnati with especially keen eyes...Then on Wednesday I saw a small raptor fly into the trees on the east side of the lot, and all the way to the north, at dusk, but when I got over there I couldn't locate it. So imagine my surprse when tonight, as I was settling into the "tube" with an old movie my wife announced that my friend the Cooper's hawk was out back at the feeder. When I went to look my daughter (who had made the find) said she thought it was an owl, which indeed it was...and still there...and a very co-operative one at that. http://www.pbase.com/tileman533/2011 Denny McDonnell Euclid ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
